What is Bujinkan?

Bujinkan means the divine warriors hall. It is not a meant as a glorification of our own practices, but a respectful memory of the previous grand master, Takamatsu.

The teachings of our Soke, Masaaki Hatsumi, is of the 9 Ryű (schools) he is the inherited teacher of. The schools embedded in Bujinkan are techniques and essence of different warriors battle tested knowledge. Takamatsu additionally retested it in combat and refined the contents before passing it to his students.

One interpretation of Bujinkan teachings is that of warrior ship or soldiery, not unlike our current military teaches its officers. This is to be understood, not that we produce soldiers to our own army, but that what we teach is meant for persons faced with other people who has the intention to kill them. It is hopefully unlikely we will enter war on terms of a soldier, but there are more daily applications for our training, which will develop with the student.

Many do not like our training, because it experience and skill grows with the time spent training, and not just the intensity - and for the same reason other people enjoy training. You are never finished developing, there are always more to learn, and your belt grade is just a reminder that your ego is always higher than your skills!

Student impressions:

At first Kunoichi Taikai was something big and a bit frightening for me but it occurred to be full of friendliness, support and even cosiness. The organisers were like parents to us to whom we could come with any problem or advice. Also the knowledge that was passed to us was illuminating and even necessary. The main point was that we are women and we need to fight as women. We just have to be aware of our benefits and not to be afraid to use them.

Bujinkan has definitely improved my physical fitness and my
self-confidence against a possible fight. Taijutsu is the centre of
this martial art. Strength is not needed for performing the
techniques, but good position, locks, and balance. I like that we
train with many weapons and possible situations. It is a martial art
for the real life.
